Wow, what a steep cliff! Be careful not to fall! Just kidding, you won't fall, so enjoy the view. There are two Trainers along the path leading to a cave. When you get to the cave, if you want a free Revive, you'll have to fight the Camper to get it, but that's all that's down that path.
Go inside of the cave and you will find a ladder leading up and one leading down. Taking the one leading down will lead you to the lower area down by the water, but there's nothing you can do there until you get Waterfall or Rock Climb, so take the ladder heading up instead. (Though you can fight Seel in the water down there, making it somewhat worthwhile.)
Waiting right outside of the upper cave is a Double Team — two Trainers in one battle that you'll have to fight, using an Electabuzz and Magmar. They're pretty tough, so watch out!
It's pretty much just a long, uneventful path until you cross a bridge and can choose to go either north or south, where going south will lead you to a Lagging Tail. Further north you'll find another Double Battle waiting for you, this time using two pretty defensive Pokemon, so keep Physical-based attacks to a minimum against them.
After that, you'll reach Route 48.
